Volunteering
The Montessori School of Cambridge, a not-for-profit charitable organization since 1972, has focused on providing the very best quality of care for the child by putting dollars back into the classroom. Not all Montessori schools are not-for-profit. A visit to our school and a tour of our classrooms is living proof that money is invested where it counts – quality learning materials, resources and equipment for the children. The teachers and volunteer parent board work to develop programs with the best interests of the child in mind. Our not-for-profit school offers many opportunities to get involved. So, why not…share your talents, lend a hand, build your skills and enjoy new friendships. Dr. Maria Montessori observed, “It is interesting to see how little by little, these children become aware of forming a community which behaves as such…once they have reached this level the children put the group first and try to succeed for its benefit.”
Board of Directors
- attend orientation and education sessions as scheduled
- attend monthly Board meetings and Annual General Meeting
- work on a minimum of one committee
- make a commitment of at least 2 years
Board Mission – “To look at every decision to be made with the long-term success of the school’s mission and the future viability of the school in mind.”
School Spirit Events
Our events are an opportunity to have fun while getting to know staff and other families in our school community. Why not share your talents in planning and organising or helping out on the day of events like our annual Holiday Skating Party or Year End Picnic?
Fundraising
As a not-for-profit organization, fundraising is vital to our operation, enabling us to:
- replenish our well-equipped classrooms
- develop programs (like our Toddler program)
- contribute to our Building the Dream fund
Class Trips
Your child’s teachers will be seeking volunteers throughout the year. Let them know that you are interested.
Be a “Class Act”
Do you have a special talent or unique career? We would love to schedule you as a guest in one of our classrooms. Please share with your child’s teacher.

Visit www.msc.mabel.ca to place your order while helping our school at the same time!
Charity BINGOS
This is one of our biggest fundraisers! Bingos are held monthly on Monday Evenings. In order to receive a share of the Bingos each month, we require two Montessori volunteers for each 2.5 hour session. All Bingo monies are designated for classroom learning materials, gym equipment, outdoor programs, bussing for field trips, French materials and for classroom furnishings. On average, for each hour a volunteer spends at a Bingo we raise $150.00. Each new volunteer is always paired with someone who has worked at a Bingo before so there’s no stress involved! It is an easy way for the school to raise a substantial amount of money with minimal commitment and everyone who volunteers always does so again. It’s fun and a great way to meet other Montessori parents.
